Murphy Inn is generously giving us 20% of their food and beverage sales for that day. So bring your family out for food and drinks and support a great cause.

We will be selling our raffle tickets for a weekend at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Raffle tickets will be $20 each and only 300 total will be sold. Stay tuned!

Mosaics in the Park Ribbon Cutting Ceremony | September 20, 2019
The Historical Society hosted a “Ribbon Cutting” ceremony at The Mariner Theater on the 20th of September,
2019. Included was a walking tour of four downtown waterfront parks in Marine City where the Mosaics are
located. There are 2 mosaics in each of Broadway Park, Watchman Park, River Park and Drake Park. All were
decked out in colorful red ribbons for the event waiting to be cut.
It was a beautiful sunny evening with at least 45 people gathered at Broadway Park to begin the walk. Sherrill
Zimmer, President of the society, gave a brief description of how the project had evolved and was now part of
Marine City’s Outdoor Maritime Museum. She introduced Georgia Phelan who has spearheaded the museum
and has documented the various historic marine items that are in our many small parks. Georgia cut the
ribbons on the 2 Mosaics in Broadway Park and in River Park.
Heather Bokram was also present to add comments about the different ships and about the talent of our
mosaic artist Allison Eden, who brought her drawings to life. Jeff Ward was also present with his family. He
was responsible for creating the platforms for the mosaics and for actually placing the mosaics into the
platforms. This was a huge job involving several of his workers over a period of 4 weeks.
The major donors cut the ribbons on their own mosaics as the crowd moved south through all the parks.
Sherrill spoke at each station giving the guests information on the different ships. She introduced Kathy Duffy
from the Community Foundation of St. Clair County, which had given 2 grants for this project. Kathy spoke
about the involvement of the Foundation in encouraging art in the local communities. She said that this
project epitomized what they wanted to see from the small towns in our County.
The walk ended at The Mariner Theater, a great way to end our day and where everyone got to enjoy
Champagne and hors d’oeuvres made by our members. There was a video showing the progress of the
mosaics from old photos to completion and the process of making the platforms in all of the parks. Guests also
got to enjoy the beautiful Mariner Theater with all the ship replicas and artwork wherever you looked. Of
course the gorgeous model of the Titanic was a special attraction.
We are indebted to the generosity of Laura Scaccia for opening her Theater for our group. We also thank all
our guests for all their help and interest in the project. Without all of you the images would still be on paper!

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Mocktails & Cocktails | Sept 10, 2018
Thank you to all who attended our Mocktails and Cocktails Event at the Marine City Fish Company on September 10, 2018. It was a great evening of fabulous food, mingling, and raising money for our Ship Mosaics in the Park, with over 100 supporters in attendance.

All our guests seemed to be having a grand time and the food was really delicious. Our thanks go to Missy at the Fish Company for her organizational skills and to Jeremy for his great cooking. The restaurant staff members were wonderful. All our board members attended and did much to make the evening a success.

Barbie Heisler did yeoman’s work, taking care of advertising and ticket sales which included a personal delivery service! Thank you, Barbie! Terry Avery became our carpenter, helping to make sure the mosaic of the “Marine City” was safely displayed that evening. Thank you to Char Faucher for getting us into the Calendar of the Port Huron Times Herald. Thank you to Jay Heisler for being our event photographer. Jay has taken great pictures that you can browse throughout our website. Another thanks to Heather Bokram who wore many hats, and ensured the artwork was displayed beautifully! Thank you to Sherrill for her signs and balloons at the Fish Company and a big thank you to everyone else who worked throughout the evening, making sure our guests had a great time.
