Teaching Assistant Jobs and What They Entail
When it comes to working in teaching assistant jobs you will have to be enthusiastic and very energetic. Most teaching assistants will work in a particular classroom with the same teacher and the same group of children for a whole school year. This means that they will get to know the teacher and the children and they could have to do any number of jobs during that year. Their primary role is to assist the teacher in any way that is required by the teacher.
The teaching assistant will have to develop relationships with the children in the class as well as with the teacher as they will be working together on a daily basis. The teaching assistant will be answerable to the teacher in the classroom as well as the head teacher but the role of the teaching assistant is very important. After all, the teaching assistant is the one who will make the teachers job easier. That is one of the reasons why teaching assistant jobs are so sought after.
In most schools teaching assistant jobs will be available for the younger classrooms because this is where the teacher will need most help. These students will be at different levels and because they are new to school, it may be difficult for the teacher to get them into routine in the beginning. It is therefore up to the teaching assistant to help the teacher supervise the children and help them to understand what is expected of them in school. If there are any special needs students in the class, the teaching assistant will be expected to provide more support as the teacher cannot give more time to one student than the others. There are many other areas where the teaching assistant will be expected to play a major role such as lunch times and toilet breaks.
When young children start school there may be times when they are upset about being away from their parents and the teaching assistant will have to work to calm the child down and get them back into the classroom. The teaching assistant will often have to encourage these children to join in particular activities as some children can be quite shy and reserved. The teacher and the teaching assistant will have to work at building the confidence of those children who are nervous or shy when taking part in group activities.
Teaching assistant jobs require the applicant to be dedicated, hard working and caring. You will have to be enthusiastic about the job and want to help the children in your care. You do not have to be a qualified teacher to get a job as a teaching assistant but there are some standard grades you will have to have.
